3 Light and Juicy Summer Cocktails to Fake Your Next Backyard Beach 'Trip'
Like you, we love the weekend trip to the beach. Lucky to be in Southern California, it's a quick jaunt down the freeway to hit our favorite, off-the-beaten-path stretch of sand.
With things the way they are in 2020, we are doing our part to stay socially distant. But that doesn't mean we found some ways, at home, to fake a trip to our favorite sea-side bar or [never happens] yacht.
Here are three cocktails we recently made that are simple, quick and keep the summer heat away:
Sweet Peach Sangria
Ingredients:
1 Bottle of White Wine - for this past weekend, we used Toasted Head Chardonnay
3 oz Brandy - E&J Grand Blue
2 oz Tiple Sec - DeKuyper
1 cup of Orange Juice
1 cup Pineapple Juice
2 oz Simple Syrup - we make our own. Bring a 1/2 cup of water and 1/2 cup of sugar to a simmer, stirring throughout
3 oz White Peach - use 1 peach to puree, use a blender
Assortment - fresh peaches, oranges and apples slices for garnish
Mix:
Introduce all ingredients into pitcher - wine, triple sec, brandy, syrup, OJ, pineapple juice and the peach puree, stir to combine
Refrigerate the pitcher or travel bottle until chilled
Keep cool until ready to drink, then serve over ice - we show wine glasses, but I think it would work better in a tall glass
Enjoy:
A bit of a sweet pull, best sipped and enjoyed over time, we still enjoy its mix of summer fruits
Mango Citrus Cooler
Ingredients:
1 oz lemon juice
1 oz lime juice
4 oz mango juice
4 oz vodka - we have a stock of Purity at the moment, very clean finish
2 oz lemon lime soda
Assorted - ripe mangoes, diced for garnish
Mix:
Mix first four ingredients in a beverage bottle or cocktail shaker
Fill two tall glasses with ice, then pour your in your mixture, leaving enough space for 1 oz of lemon lime soda, we like to use a glass stirrer
Introduce diced mangoes or other garnish, we like a sprig of mint - it always goes so well with lime accents in drinks
Enjoy:
Lime simply lends itself as a cooling flavor, especially when mixed with ice, the mango and vodka are your deep rivers of flavor in this one - be careful as a little goes a long way
The French 75
Ingredients:
1.5 oz of gin - for some reason me and the family always have Bombay Sapphire on hand
3/4 oz of fresh lemon juice
3/4 oz of simply syrup
3 oz of Champagne - don't hate, but Andre has been sufficient
Lemon peel for garnish
Mix:
Proper mixing for this one is your first three ingredients in a cocktail mixer with ice, but you can always improvise, you just want to mix and shake until well chilled
Pour evenly into your glasses, the above is for a single serving, but you can share to taste on first pull
Pour almost half-way in a Champagne flute, then the rest with chilled Champagne
Garnish with the lemon peel and serve
Enjoy:
We found this the most portable for a fancy drink on the go, just bring plenty of ice and keep your ingredients cool for best effect
